Flawless, glowing skin is a gift! Some get lucky with good genes, but others are always left praying for beautiful skin. If you are one of the latter, then don’t worry. The medical director of Lumiere Dermatology, New Delhi, Kiran Lohia, suggests a couple of tweaks in your diet that can give you gorgeous and healthy-looking skin.
* No dairy products: Hormonal imbalance will worsen skin problems like acne, ageing and pigmentation. Dairy products are full of hormones, so consuming them means adding more hormones to your body. We don’t realize that milk can be more harmful than we realise. Most dermatologists will tell you to skip the milk, cheese, ice cream and yoghurt as much as possible. Don’t worry about missing out on calcium, here is a list of calcium-rich foods.
No sugar: Sugar causes glycation of proteins that are essential for the skin, making them inactive. Inactivation of these proteins leads to sagging and wrinkles. Do not switch to sugar-free to satisfy your sweet tooth. Artificial sweeteners have a host of issues themselves and won’t keep your insulin levels in check. For best results, avoiding sugar is the best option for naturally beautiful skin.
* No artificial ingredients: Staying away from processed food is always advisable. They cause more damage to our system than we realize. Keep your diet simple and true to nature at least 80 percent of the time. Opt for home-cooked meals as often as possible and you will see a big difference in your skin. * No white foods: Almost all yummy foods, be it pasta or namkeen, contain white flour and corn starch. These foods have no nutritional value and cause insulin and stress hormone levels to spike. High levels of stress hormones are the reason behind pimples, dullness and skin sensitivity. Before your hormones go crazy, avoid these white foods.
